Happy as a clam in the waters of Coney Island

What better way to spend another 90-degree day than at Coney Island? Today 6 of us girls hit up the wonderland that is Coney Island: a plethora of bare, tattoo-covered skin, the smell of fried food, blaring music from various boom boxes (love), & today, Puerto Rican pride in the form of flags everywhere, due to Puerto Rican pride day. What a wondrous day in the sun: swimming in freezing salty water, a stroll on the pier, beach-vendor daquiris served in enormous neon glasses, and then a nice cool air-conditioned ride home.

cool things I saw include: a two-year-old wearing huge gold necklaces; way too many other adorable small children that I thought about kidnapping; Puerto Rican flags worn in the most creative of ways. I may keep saying this till I die: I love love love love NY.

cool thing from the other day that I forgot about: while listening to music at Virgin Records, there was a 50-yr.-old man next to me, in full business attire, doing an all-out step dance while jamming to his music. this went on for more than a few minutes. it was so hard not to smile/laugh in his direction.

Oh- and today I talked with an NYU security guard for a ridiculously long time about how he built a float for the Puerto Rican pride festival last year. He also told me about youtube videos of him dancing the mambo, and then he gave me his email address: mamboking15, and also his myspace name. awesomely awesome.

fabio the lifeguard, so tough he doesn't need a stand-- just a trashcan & an orange towel. ridic.
..followed by an out-of-towner lifeguard? wearing 9 layers of clothes + a scarf. i really hope he's not getting paid as much as fabio.
